Updated: 4:00 am CDT May 21, 2009

The Lodi School District announced Wednesday that Lodi High School will be closed on Thursday and Friday due to concerns about the flu.

Lodi primary, elementary and middle schools have been closed since Tuesday and are scheduled to reopen on May 26.

Susan Lorenz, Columbia County health officer, in consultation with Wisconsin Division of Public Health, and Mike Shimshak, Lodi district administrator, decided to close the high school on Thursday and Friday due to the increased incidence of influenza-like illness of high school students throughout the school day on Wednesday.

School officials said that all primary, elementary, middle and high school co-curricular activities are canceled in conjunction with school closures. Students will not be able to participate in the Capitol Conference track meet Thursday night.

As of Wednesday, Columbia County has 25 confirmed cases of the so-called swine flu, of H1N1 virus.

Officials on Tuesday said 11 of the reported cases in Columbia County are among children that attend Lodi Elementary School, Lodi Middle School or Lodi Primary School.

Officials said further updates will be posted to the Lodi School District Web site at www.lodi.k12.wi.us and the Columbia County Health and Human Services Web site at www.co.columbia.wi.us.
