Middleton Teen Suspected In Joyride Could Face Charges

Video Of Incident Appeared On YouTube

A Middleton High School teenager cited for speeding in connection with a crash could face charges for allegedly taking a dangerous joyride.

The Dane County Sheriff's Office said a clip that surfaced on YouTube Tuesday was video footage of an incident that occurred earlier this month on a stretch of Highway 18-151 south of Verona.

The video clip shows a car's speedometer hovering near 155 mph as it drives on the highway, and the video ends with some sort of crash, which authorities confirmed.

No one was hurt in the crash, but the teen driver was cited for imprudent speed, authorities said.

But because of the video that surfaced, authorities said they are consulting with the district attorney about additional charges -- possibly reckless endangerment because passengers were in the vehicle.

Since the case has been reopened, investigators said they won't comment, only saying they're in discussion with the district attorney and the teen's parents.
