Firefighters Say Source Of Leak Appears To Be Furnace

Five people were taken to local hospitals with carbon monoxide poisoning on Monday morning at a two-unit apartment on Madison's near East Side.

Fire and medical crews were sent to the 2100 block of Sommers Avenue at about 4:45 a.m. Residents said that they awoke this morning feeling ill and called 911.

Firefighters said the cause of the carbon monoxide leak is believed to be a faulty furnace.

In an unrelated incident, six people fell ill from a carbon monoxide leak at a Madison church on Sunday.
