Steve Van Dinter

Steve Van Dinter is a general assignment reporter and News 3's Gadget Guy.

Becoming a reporter was a no-brainer for Van Dinter. As a young child his parents would find him watching the morning news rather than cartoons. After touring a local television station in sixth grade, he realized news was the only job for him.

Reporting is a dream come true, he says. "To be able to do what I love and get paid for it is something not everyone gets to do and I feel very fortunate."

Not only that, Van Dinter says he feels lucky to be able to work with the talented group of journalists at WISC-TV. "Tapping into the combined knowledge and experience of the staff here makes for a learning experience everyday," he says.

Van Dinter enjoys stories that take him on adventures. One of his most unusual stories took him to Green County where he chased buffalo on the loose for two days.

Van Dinter is originally from New London, Wis. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Before becoming News 3's Rock County Reporter in 2002, Van Dinter completed several internships including one at KITV in Honolulu.

When he is not reporting, Van Dinter enjoys running and rollerblading around Madison's lakes, going to movies and relaxing with friends.

For those interested in becoming future journalists, Van Dinter says the best advice he can give is to complete as many internships as possible. He says not only will you gain valuable experience, but it will also help you decide if you are really interested in the challenge.
