An Ohio man was in custody Saturday after three people were found shot at the scene of a fire.

The fire was reported at a building in the 9700 block of Sacremento Street at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police said that when they arrived at the home, they saw a man outside armed with an assault rifle. The man then ran back inside the home, officers said.

Rescue units noticed smoke as they tried to get inside the home.

When police made it inside, they found the three victims -- a man, a woman and a teenage girl. The woman and the male victim died at the scene. The teenaged victim was taken to a hospital where she later died.

The victims were identified as Jerry Sturgel, 51, his wife, Mary Sturgel, 40, and their 13-year-old daughter, Emily Nicole Hurst, police said.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s office said that Timothy Sturgel, 26, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder.

Officers said he was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the sheriff’s headquarters for questioning.

Detectives said that Sturgel didn’t make a formal statement and did not give any reason for the shooting.

Investigators said that Jerry Sturgel was Timothy Sturgel's adoptive father. Hurst was the daughter of Mary Sturgel and the stepsister of Timothy Sturgel.

A neighbor to the victims, Tom Campbell, said that he caught the incident on camera and that he thinks he videotaped the shooter, as well. The police confiscated the tape, Campbell said.

Investigators said that they have not found the assault rifle the shooter was allegedly holding. They said they believe he hid it inside the home when he set the house on fire.

Investigators said that cause of the fire still hasn’t been determined but they are considering it to be suspicious.
