SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. -- The Sun Prairie School Board on Monday night approved moving forward with plans to offer 4-year-old kindergarten in the school district.Sun Prairie Assistant Superintendent Alice Murphy said the board approved the plan with a 6-1 vote.More than 200 schools across the state offer a 4K program. Sun Prairie school district officials said that the classes could be taught in day care centers."That would be the ideal setting that 4-year-old comes to the day care in the morning, is dropped off, and then at 8:30 a.m. or 9 in the morning the certified teacher moves in and presents the 4K instructional program for two and a half hours," Murphy said.At least one class will be offered in a traditional public school setting, officials said. They said the program will cost the district about $600,000, but grant money would help offset the costs.
