Posted: 3:51 pm CST December 16, 2008

Gov. Jim Doyle has created a new council to advise state officials on how to improve day care centers.

The federal Head Start Reauthorization Act of 2007 requires each state to create such a council.

It will advise the state Department of Children and Families on day care centers, including recommendations on how to rate providers and assessing broad improvements for child care statewide.

DCF Secretary Reggie Bicha and state schools Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster will lead the council.
