5-Year-Old Boy Hurt In Beloit House Fire

Occupants Had No Renters Insurance

UPDATED: 8:55 am CST November 14, 2008

A 5-year-old boy was injured after a house fire in Beloit shortly after midnight.

Six people -- a mother and four children and one upstairs renter -- were in the house in the 1300 block of Copeland Avenue when the fire broke out. Firefighters were called at about 12:20 a.m.

The fire apparently began in the house's living room. Fire officials said that the blaze is under investigation.

Fire officials said that smoke detectors were working in the home and were a key factor in waking up children in the house.

The boy suffered burns in the blaze and was transferred to a burn center. His current condition isn't yet known.

The people who lived in the home had no renters insurance. The Red Cross is assisting the occupants. Damage estimates total about $76,000.
