Posted: 7:19 am CDT October 14, 2008

Madison police said officers rescued a man from his burning vehicle after he crashed following a chase early Tuesday morning.

Police said Donald Wiessinger, 52, of Madison, is facing his seventh drunken-driving charge and other charges.

At about 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, police received a report of a vehicle driving into parked cars. Police said an officer was dispatched and tried to stop Wiessinger's vehicle, but he accelerated and tried to elude the officer.

Police said Wiessinger lost control a short distance later and struck a tree in the 600 block of Cottage Grove Road, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

Police said Wiessinger was found unconscious in his vehicle with his doors locked, and officers had to force entry into his vehicle to rescue him before firefighters arrived.
