Updated: 9:46 pm CDT September 17, 2008

College students typically study beer drinking, but a new class could soon help them brew their own.

MillerCoors is donating $100,000 worth of equipment to the University of Wisconsin-Madison's College of Agricultural and Life Sciences for a beer brewing program.

A course on the science of brewing and fermentation will start this spring, beer experts from Miller's Milwaukee brewery will help implement curriculum.

"Our combined aim is to advance higher education, in biotechnological understanding for the future, through supporting the various curricula in microbial sciences, and in particular a brand new course in fermentation," said David Ryder, MillerCoors' vice president.
