A Madison man arrested Tuesday in connection with a bank robbery is now facing six counts of robbery.

Madison police said that John B. Kowal, 23, was arrested in connection with a robbery at the Anchor Bank on South Westfield Road near the Mineral Point intersection.

Police said Kowal threatened a teller, and then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash Tuesday. Police said a bank customer followed the suspect and provided information that helped officers locate and arrest the suspect soon after the robbery.

The Madison Police Department said in a news release that Kowal has been connected to a string of area bank robberies and is facing six counts of robbery.

The FBI has been working with the Madison Police Department, Middleton Police Department and Monona Police Department on the bank robbery cases.
