Marino Benefit Held Despite Wet Weather

Joel Marino Found Murdered In January

Updated: 11:28 am CDT September 14, 2008

Saturday's wet weather put a damper on a benefit held in honor of Joel Marino, a Madison man who was found murdered in his home in January.

Friends and family were to have gathered over the weekend for a golf outing and dinner, but the golf had to be cancelled due to a soggy course. However, dozens of people gathered at Madison's Reverend Jim's Roadhouse for a prize giveaway.

"We as his friends had no doubt that nobody's forgotten about what happened to him, and it's great to see two to three hundred people come out and support the cause," Bryan Bazan, a friend of Marino's, said of the event.

Organizers said they hoped to raise more than $5,000 at Saturday's event, which will go towards music scholarships, difibulators and environmental cleanup efforts.
