Police: Suicidal Threats Preceded Edgerton Homicide

2 Bodies Found At House Monday Morning

Updated: 5:53 pm CDT August 19, 2008

An Edgerton man found dead with his wife in an apparent murder-suicide was taken to a medical center two days before the incident.

Police Chief Tom Klubertanz said officers escorted Shaun Vordermann to the Rock County Health Center on Saturday night after his wife, Jennifer, called for help because he was threatening suicide.

Jennifer Vordermann's aunt, Julie Ellingson, said Shaun Vordermann was released from the medical center after midnight on Sunday morning. Ellingson said that was much too soon.

Ellingson said the family wants answers from health care professionals about efforts taken to help Shaun Vordermann before he was released early Sunday.

Officers discovered the couple's bodies in their home Monday morning.

Along with preliminary investigation and autopsy results, it has been determined that four rounds were fired inside the residence, and three of those rounds have been recovered. Jennifer Vordermann died of a single gunshot wound fired by Shaun Vordermann and Shaun died of a self-inflicted gunshot, according to Edgerton police.

Police went to the home in the 100 block of Mildred Avenue to check on the welfare of a person there.

Area residents said that the incident is difficult for them to understand.

"I'm shocked. I'm just shocked," said neighbor Barabara Dionne. "I've seen them wash their cars and having fun. They seemed like they got along really, really well."

"If you all have been out there, you'll see it's kind of a shock of something like this happening in that area," Klubertanz said.

There were no past domestic disturbance calls made from the house, WISC-TV reported.
