DeForest Man Killed In Dane County Motorcycle Crash
Fatal Collision Occurred Early Saturday

MADISON, Wis. -- Authorities in Dane County said they are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcyclist who officers had been chasing earlier.Michael S. Paul, 33, of DeForest, was killed Saturday morning after his motorcycle collided head-on with a suspected drunken driver on U.S. 51 just north of Grinde Road in Winsor. Paul was not wearing a helmet.Authorities said Paul was weaving in his lane, and that a Dane County sheriff's deputy began to pursue him. The deputy terminated his pursuit because Paul was carrying a passenger on the motorcycle.Seconds later, authorities said the deputy saw the motorcycle stop and the passenger dismount. The motorcyclist then continued to flee.A DeForest police officer saw the fleeing motorcyclist and began a pursuit. Authorities obtained the identity of the motorcyclist from the passenger, and the DeForest officer ended the pursuit.After the chase ended, Paul continued on U.S. 51 and crashed into a Honda Accord being driven by Rachel Hron, 22, of Sun Prairie.Hron, who was taken to a hospital for her injuries, has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
