Dane County authorities said an early-morning fire destroyed a house in the Town of Berry Wednesday.

Fire crews arrived at the house in the 6200 block of Old Settlers Road at about 3:11 a.m. on Wednesday for a report of a smoke-filled house. Dane County sheriff's deputies, along with Black Earth, Cross Plains, Middleton and Mazomanie fire departments, responded to the blaze.

The house was fully engulfed in flames when the first units arrived, WISC-TV reported.

Authorities said the homeowner and his dog were able to safely evacuate after being alerted to the fire by smoke detectors within the house.

Officials said the house is a complete loss. There is no damage estimate yet.

Authorities said the fire remains under investigation.
