There has been a recall of Kemps chocolate chip ice cream because it might contain nuts that could cause allergic reaction.

Recalled are half-gallon containers which the company said may prompt a reaction in people who are sensitive to cashews, filberts, hazelnuts or almonds.

A Marigold Foods spokesman, the Minneapolis-based owner of Kemps, told the Star Tribune that customers should take the container back to the store at which it was purchased for a refund.

Most of the 11,000 half-gallons of chocolate chip with the code date 196-2-2 printed on the rim of the lid have been recovered.

The ice cream is sold in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Michigan.
