Meet Held At West Side Swim Club

POSTED: 5:36 pm CDT July 20, 2008

The 2008 All City Swim Meet will take place July 31 through Aug. 2 in Madison, and the more than 1,500 participants will compete not only in the pool, but also to see which club can contribute the most to selected food pantries.

Billed as "Madison’s own version of the summer swimming Olympics," the meet will be held at West Side Swim Club at 5533 Odana Road.

For area swimmers ages 5 to 18, the All City Swim Meet is the culmination of two months of early-morning practices with dual meets on Saturday.

Swimmers will fill their donation barrels with food and toiletry items through Aug. 2. . Last year, swimmers donated more than 22,000 items during the All City Food Drive.

Donations will go to selected food pantries in the Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin system.

Organizers are also requesting money donations this year. For every $1 donated, Second Harvest said it can provide the equivalent of seven meals.
