Businesses Continue To Reel From Draining Of Lake Delton

Lake Drained Into Wisconsin River

Posted: 1:50 pm CDT July 20, 2008

Businesses around Lake Delton said they're struggling to get through the summer after June storms drained the lake.

The rains blew out part of Lake Delton's shoreline. Water drained into the Wisconsin River, leaving behind a giant mud pit.

Workers said they hope to refill the lake by next summer. But the resorts and restaurants around the lake are hurting right now.

Owner Tom Diehl said revenue is down about 90 percent from last year at the Tommy Bartlett Show.

Sunset Bay Resort co-owner Dawn Baker said her receipts are down about 60 percent.

Terry Jacobson owned two vacation condos that washed away with the lake. He said the homes were worth about $1.5 million and that he has lost about $30,000 in revenue.
