Heavy Winds Damage Jefferson County Fair

JEFFERSON, Wis. -- Heavy winds and rain from Thursday's storms caused some damage at the Jefferson County Fair.
VIDEO: Watch The ReportWhile no injuries were reported, some car windows were broken when heavy winds destroyed several tents on the fair grounds in Jefferson.Two tents housing 50 draft horses also gave way, and the horses are being housed in another tent."We started moving people out of the grand stands and out of the tents into the buildings and it came up fast," said fair supervisor Roger Kylmanen. "It was pretty wild and crazy. People were panicking with those big horses in there it was a scary sight."The fair is open and recovery is under way."We're trying to get back in shape, we're putting up some more tents and we'll go on again tonight," said Kylmanen."So far it's been great," said Mia Wollin who was attending the fair Friday. "Hopefully the sun will come out and it'll get nice and warm."Many residents are trying to forget about last month's floods that devastated the county.Scott Koenigs knows all about damage as he still has some flooding in his basement, so bringing his family to the fair, is just what they needed, WISC-TV reported."Relief yeah, something just to relax with for a while and don't have to worry about too much stuff stress," said Koenigs.Some vendors did leave after their merchandise was damaged by the rain and wind, WISC-TV reported.The fair continues through Sunday.
