Man Accused Of Marino Killing Won't Waive Right To Preliminary Hearing

Peterson Remains On Suicide Watch

Updated: 8:08 am CDT July 9, 2008

The former University of Wisconsin-Madison student charged with the killing of Joel Marino will not waive his right to a preliminary hearing, according to his attorney.

Lawyers on Wednesday will set a date to determine whether there's probable cause to put Adam Peterson on trial on a murder charge.

Peterson's attorney, Dennis Burke, said that hearing will likely be set for the week after next, WISC-TV reported.

Burke said that during the hearing, he hopes to learn more about what police believe to be some sort of incriminating admission made by Peterson at the time of his arrest.

Meanwhile, Burke said his client remains on a suicide watch. He said that has prevented Peterson from seeing -- or even talking to -- his parents since he was jailed, WISC-TV reported.
