Elver Park Fireworks Show Set To Take Place Friday Evening

Show Will Get Under Way At 9:30 p.m.

Updated: 2:16 pm CDT July 4, 2008

Thanks to Midwest Family Broadcasting and Q-106, the July Fourth fireworks show at Elver Park set for 9:30 p.m. Friday is a go despite fireworks suppliers having a bit of a struggle to find enough fireworks following an explosion earlier this year in China.

A year ago, the show almost didn't happen until the radio group stepped up at the last minute. They ended up losing money on it and Q-106 program director Brad Austin said it looks like they will again this year, but the tradition makes it worthwhile, WISC-TV reported.

Said, Austin, "We've been planning on doing it and talking with the city since July of last year, so we've been moving forward trying to get everything in place and yeah we're hearing people just thankful."

"Last year we stepped into save the event with only three weeks to go, which put a crunch on getting sponsorship dollars together," said Austin. "This year we had a little bit more time, and work through things with the city, and workers and things with our sponsors. This year we were able to raise a little bit more."

The Elver Park fireworks are the only July Fourth fireworks in Madison. Event planners have said people shouldn't bring alcohol, grills or their own fire works, WISC-TV reported.

The fireworks display at Elver Park is set to get under way at 9:30 p.m. Friday.
