Attorney: Peterson Gave Police Statement

Peterson Is In Jail On $1 Million Bail

Updated: 12:48 pm CDT July 3, 2008

The defense attorney for Adam Peterson, the suspect in the high-profile January stabbing death of Joel Marino, said his client gave Madison police an incriminating statement.

Peterson's defense attorney, Dennis Burke, said Wednesday that he doesn't know what Peterson told police when they contacted him and arrested him in his mother's Minnesota home on June 26.

Burke said he believes Peterson made an admission that's not in the complaint.

Police have reported they served a search warrant for Peterson's DNA, which ended up matching DNA from the Marino crime scene.

But they arrested the 20-year-old Peterson before the DNA results were back.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison dropout is in jail on $1 million bail on a charge of first-degree intentional homicide.
