Summer swimmers are slow to warm up to the waters in Sun Prairie and Columbus. Officials at aquatic centers in both of those cities said their numbers have taken a slight dip this year.

They attribute the decline in swimmers to the rainy, cool weather.

But officials at Madison area pools said the summer is going swimmingly.

Officials at both private pools and the city's public pool, Goodman, said the weather has not affected them.

Goodman Pool averages between 800 and 1,200 people a day.

This is the third summer the pool has been open. Pool managers are reporting higher membership and registration for swimming lessons.

"In fact, I think people are just ready to be done with winter and ready to come and have some fun, and I think this is a great place to do it," said Goodman Pool manager Bonnie Griswold.

A dip at Goodman Pool costs between $2 and $4 daily.
