The shooting occurred at a duplex in the 7100 block of Tempe Drive, near Highway PD, at about 10:30 p.m. Officers responded to the residence on a report of someone being shot.

The victim was transported to a local hospital but later died.

Authorities identified the victim as Marcus Hamilton, 30, of Madison. He died of a single gunshot wound, according to the Dane County coroner.

Police said that four children were also at the Tempe Drive home at the time of the shooting.

On Sunday night and early Monday morning, police had the entire neighborhood blocked off and Mount Horeb and Verona police were assisting at the scene.

Police said that they don't believe this shooting was a random attack. Police said that Hamilton appears to have been targeted by his attackers.

Hamilton had an extensive Dane County criminal record that goes back 10 years. Many of the charges involved battery and resisting arrest.

Police said that they're seeking two men -- both believed to be in their 20s -- in connection with the shooting. The first is described as being about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 140 pounds. He has a dark complexion and a thin build. The second suspect is described as being about 6 feet tall and weighs about 170 pounds with a light complexion and a medium build.
