Madison Man Was Fatally Stabbed In January 2008

  • Jan. 28, 2008: Police said Joel Marino was stabbed in his home on West Shore Drive. He was found just off South Park Street.

  • Jan. 29, 2008: Witnesses said a man wearing a stocking hat and backpack and a tan Carhart-type jacket was seen in the neighborhood at the time of the stabbing.

  • Feb. 26, 2008: Police released a sketch of a suspect in the slaying.

  • March 10, 2008: Investigators determined the backpack was purchased from a State Street business.

  • May 8, 2008: Marino's parents met with Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen to express their concerns that Madison police weren't doing enough to find the killer.

  • May 20, 2008: The Marino family meets with the Madison police chief to discuss the investigation.

  • June 26, 2008: Madison police said a suspect in the slaying has been arrested in Minnesota.

  • June 27, 2008: Madison police said Adam Peterson, a former University of Wisconsin-Madison student, was formally charged with Marino's slaying.
