DOT To Announce Reopening Of I-94 In Both Directions

Highway's Westbound Lanes Were Closed

Updated: 11:12 am CDT June 17, 2008

The state Department of Transportation is set to announce a plan to return traffic-flow to Interstate 94 between Madison and Milwaukee on Tuesday.

Detours have been in place for days because high water forced the closure of the Rock River bridge in Johnson Creek.

A DOT representative said that the westbound lanes will remain closed, but the plan will include constructing crossovers to allow bi-directional traffic in the eastbound lanes.

A 28-mile stretch of I-94 has been closed since Friday, between Delafield and Lake Mills, because of rising rivers in Jefferson County.

Officials had set up a detour for motorists to take State Highway 83 southbound to Interstate 43 southbound to Interstate 39/90 northbound to Madison.

For now, state Department of Transportation officials said that the detour to Beloit is the best route to take considering the other roads closed in Jefferson and Dodge counties.
