Authorities Say 2 Victims Suffered Minor Injuries

Updated: 2:48 pm CDT June 16, 2008

Ten people, including six children, are lucky to be alive after a frightening rescue on the Milwaukee river this weekend.

Two canoes capsized on a swollen river on Sunday, sending those people into swift-moving water near Newburg in Ozaukee County.

The victims were clinging to trees waiting for help. The youngest canoe rider was 7 years old.

A dive team used a rope linking the island to the shore and slowly pulled all the people to safety, WISC-TV reported.

There were only two minor injuries, authorities said.
