A 15-month-old girl was killed in the Town of Newark on Thursday morning after a man apparently backed over her in a driveway.

The Rock County Sheriff's Office said that deputies were called to a residence in the 9500 block of West County Highway H at 9:42 a.m. on a report of a child run over by a vehicle.

The Town of Newark is located near the state line, about eight miles west of Beloit.

Authorities said that a 32-year-old Beloit man was manuevering a vehicle in the driveway and in the process backed over the girl.

The child, identified as Charly M. Brown, was treated at the residence by Orfordville and Beloit EMS workers and then rushed to Rockford Memorial Hospital by helicopter. The girl was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities said that they don't suspect alcohol use, excessive speed or reckless operation occurred in this incident, and no citations were issued.

They said that the investigation is continuing.

Last Sunday, a 13-month-old girl was killed in a Whitewater church parking lot.
