New Web Site Gives Information About 911 Center

Web Site Launched This Week

The Public Safety Communications Center launched a Web site this week to help answer questions from the public about how the 911 Center works.

In the last month, the Dane County 911 Center has come under intense scrutiny after allegations that a 911 call from a slaying victim's cell phone the day she died was mishandled.

The new Web site, Dane911.com, gives information about how the 911 Center works, what people can expect to be asked when they dial 911 and what information they can provide that's helpful for dispatchers and emergency responders.

The Web site also explains the differences in dialing 911 from cell phones and landlines, and it gives recommendations to help reduce the number 911 calls made by mistake.

County officials said that work on the Web site started months ago as part of a public education initiative that 911 Center Director Joe Norwick began when hired in July 2007.
