Madison Police Say Task Force Helping Reduce Burglaries

Police Make Arrests In Incidents

UPDATED: 7:45 am CDT May 16, 2008

Madison police said that a joint task force with county and other local jurisdictions is helping to cut down on a spike of recent business burglaries, mostly on the city's West Side.

Police launched the "Blue Net" task force in March. Police said they arrested a few key persons and that it immediately led to a decrease in the burglaries.

"There's a number of people who are involved in this situation. We've identified some people. We're working to identify more. We expect that more arrests will be made," said Capt. Tom Snyder, of the Criminal Intelligence Unit at the Madison Police Department.

Some appliance stores were hit by "smash and grab" robberies. Police said they've recovered several televisions as evidence.
