UW Permits Girl At Overnight Wrestling Camp

Verona Girl Offered Spot At UW-La Crosse Cam

Updated: 9:10 am CDT April 28, 2008

A young girl with dreams of attending wrestling camp will get her wish.

The University of Wisconsin Athletics Wrestling Camp has accepted Verona resident Kylie Jones into its summer overnight camp program. The program had excluded her previously because she is a girl.

Kylie and her mother said that it won't be easy being the only girl, but she's excited to show the boys a thing or two.

"Meet me on the mat and then we'll see," said Jones.

"Every couple of minutes I'd hear like this little squawk of joy," said Kylie's mother, Christena Jones. "She was in the back and was so excited."

Jones has also been offered a spot at the UW-La Crosse camp and will be the honorary captain at a Madison Wolves women's football game next month, WISC-TV reported.
