Family Sets Up Memorial Fund For Slain UW-Madison Student

MADISON, Wis. -- The family of the University of Wisconsin-Madison student killed on April 2 announced it is establishing a scholarship in Brittany Zimmermann's name and conducting a fund drive called "Dollars for Brittany."Police said the 21-year-old UW-Madison junior was killed after her assailant broke into her first-floor apartment on West Doty Street.The family said that the Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union is facilitating collection of contributions to the memorial fund.People interested in contributing can send donations to:Brittany Zimmermann Memorial Fund

Marshfield, WI 54449Madison detectives are continuing to investigate the slaying and said they want to talk to anyone who was soliciting money in the neighborhood when Zimmermann was killed, or anyone who gave someone money.Police spokesman Joel DeSpain said many people who were solicited for money have already talked to detectives. DeSpain said they just want to make sure they've talked with everyone.Lt. Joe Balles said more than 20 detectives are working on the case. He said investigators hope evidence being analyzed at the state crime lab will yield some clues.
