On Sunday night, more than 200 of Marino's friends and family packed Madison's Majestic Theatre downtown to honor the man who was found fatally stabbed last January by focusing on music and raising money for the things that he held dearest, WISC-TV reported.

"I think you can tell by the turnout tonight that Joel touched a lot of lives," said Marino's friend Brian Bazan. "I think it's wonderful that so many people have come out to do this."

The money raised will go into the Joel Marino Memorial Fund, which is helping provide defibrillators, music scholarships for students and environmental protection efforts, WISC-TV reported.

"Just having people sit here and talk about him and hearing them tell stories, he's still very much alive with us in the room right now you can definitely feel it," said Marino's girlfriend Amanda Miller.

Bazan said Marino enjoyed helping others and would be glad the money is going toward important causes.

"He'd probably rather just have him and six or seven people in his living room jamming on a guitar, but I'm sure he'll be in the front row watching, this was one of his favorite artists," said Bazan.

Marino was found stabbed to death outside of his downtown home in January. Police are still working the case and no suspect or suspects have been identified.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
