Developer Shows Plan For New Madison Public Library

Project Would Cost Around $20 Million

Updated: 8:23 am CDT April 10, 2008

A plan from developer Terrence Wall could lead to a new public library across from the Overture Center in downtown Madison.

The plan involves demolishing the current library and building a new nine-story building at 201 West Mifflin St. The building would include retail and office space, and the library would be on the second, third and fourth floors, WISC-TV reported.

The mayor said he supports it but that the city will only pay for half of the more than $20 million price tag.

The city said another half would need to come from private donors.
