Updated: 11:15 am CDT September 8, 2008

Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley said a house fire that killed a 37-year-old man on Easter was intentionally set.

Jeffrey Sullivan, 37, of Monroe, died on March 23 from injuries suffered while trying to rescue his daughter from the basement where the fire started.

His daughter survived but was hospitalized with severe burns.

The blaze, which broke out at a house in the 2400 block of 16th Street on the city's east side, also injured three firefighters who were trying to rescue Sullivan, WISC-TV reported.

Kelley said a 16-year-old girl has been referred to juvenile intake workers for possible charges related to the fire. He did not identify her because she is a juvenile.

Sullivan's wife and two other children also survived the fire.
