Fearing Higher Prices, People Buying Favre Memorabilia

Brett Favre Told Packers He's Retiring

Posted: 2:39 pm CST March 5,2008

Store owners said the sudden retirement of Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has boosted demand for his autographed memorabilia like footballs, pictures and helmets.

They expect some spike in prices but it's too soon to tell how much -- and when. The owner of Packer City Antiques, Mike Worachek, said it all depends on how much Favre continues to sign.

Favre told the team he was too tired to play anymore, ending a 17-year NFL career.

That news sent a rush of collectors to Worachek's store.

At $489 each, Worachek sold six Packer helmets autographed by Favre. The businessman said he wouldn't have sold any without the retirement announcement. He said the buyers feared the prices were going up.
