Carbon Monoxide Detectors Donated To Fire Departments

Donation Aims To Raise Support For Bill

The Madison area fire departments received a special donation Thursday to help raise awareness about carbon monoxide poisoning.

The departments received 200 donated carbon monoxide detectors. In addition to raising awareness, the goal of the donation is to raise support for a proposed bill moving its way through the state Capitol.

The bill would require carbon monoxide detectors in apartments and resort locations, WISC-TV reported.

A Kenosha County family spoke on Thursday about the deaths of family members during an annual fishing trip at a resort in northern Wisconsin.

"I urge everyone to get one in their own home. It's silent; you don't know what's happening until it's too late. I don't want to see anyone else have to go through what we've gone through, because it's such an easy, simple fix," said Patty Hekenberger, who lost in-laws to carbon monoxide poisoning.

The donated carbon monoxide detectors will be distributed to families in need.
