Study: State Lawmakers Raised Record Cash In 2007

Wisconsin Democracy Campaign Commissioned Study

Updated: 10:06 am CST February 20, 2008

A new report found that state lawmakers raised $3.8 million in 2007, which is a record for a non-election year.

The old mark was $3.35 million, set in 2005.

The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign study also finds lawmakers held at least 103 fundraisers while they were debating the state budget last year. Some critics contend donations during budget deliberations taint the spending plan.

The study said that legislators had nearly $5 million in the bank going into 2008.
