School Board To Decide Within Next Month

The list of names for Madison's new West Side elementary school was officially been narrowed down to four on Monday night.

The four names are: Jeffrey Erlanger, an advocate for the disabled and passionate public servant who died in June; Paul J. Olson, a former Madison principal, conservationist and polio survivor; Howard Temin, a Madison resident, cancer researcher and Nobel Prize winner; and Ilda Thomas, a drug and alcohol abuse counselor and co-founder of Centro Hispano.

The Madison Metropolitan School District's Board of Education is supposed to choose a final name within the next month, WISC-TV reported.

The school was originally named Hmong Gen. Vang Pao Elementary, but the naming process was started over after Vang Pao was charged in federal court with trying to overthrow the Laotian government.
