Feingold Unlikely To Offer Endorsement Before Feb. 19 Primary
Feingold Says He Maintains Strong Ties With McCain

JANESVILLE, Wis. -- U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., said he's unlikely to endorse either Democratic candidate before state voters go to the polls Feb. 19.Feingold said he'll endorse someone at some point, but most likely after the primary.The race between Democrats is down to U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., and U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. Feingold calls them both excellent candidates.He said he also maintains strong ties with U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the presumptive Republican nominee. The two had teamed up to produce the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Act. That was legislation signed in 2002 that limits campaign contributions.Feingold said he has no problem working with McCain, but he'll still support the Democratic candidate.
