Speaker Orders Freeze On Hiring, Travel In State Assembly
Legislature To Cut $6.3M From Budget

MADISON, Wis. -- The speaker of the state Assembly ordered a freeze on all hiring and travel to deal with a projected budget shortfall of nearly $400 million.Speaker Mike Huebsch, a Republican from West Salem, said Thursday that the new ban will take effect on Feb. 11 and remain in place indefinitely.The state Legislature is already required to cut $6.3 million from the current state budget that ends on June 30, 2009.
