JANESVILLE, Wis. -- In Rock County, hundreds of athletes competed this weekend in a wrestling and cheerleading conference for the blind.Athletes from 11 states competed in the North Central Association of Schools for the Blind conference for wrestling and cheerleading. Some athletes traveled from as far as Oklahoma and Tennessee, WISC-TV reported. The wrestling meet is like any other, with a few rule differences that help these student athletes compete against each other without actually being able to see each other.Patricia Baker, athletic director of the Wisconsin School for the Visually Handicapped, said that the event is a unique opportunity."It's an even keel, because they're all visually impaired. These are things that they can do at these schools, where, in public schools, they don't get a chance. So it's just a fantastic opportunity for them," he said.Competitions lasted all day Saturday with individual wrestling and cheerleading champions crowned Saturday night, WISC-TV reported.
