Promoter Still In Discussions About Grateful Dead Reunion

Walworth County Says Crowds, Traffic Would Be Too Much

The cancellation of the Grateful Dead reunion concert at Alpine Valley isn't a done deal yet.

The Grateful DeadClear Channel, the concert's promoter, met with Walworth County attorneys late Thursday afternoon to try to work out a compromise to let the concert go on.

Earlier this week, the county denied a permit for the show, saying it couldn't handle the crowds and the traffic.

"At this point, the decision of the county has been to deny that (the permit). I'm sure we'll be having further discussions. Clear Channel has some obvious appeal rights if they want to pursue those," Walworth County administrator David Bretl said.

"The Terrapin Station -- A Grateful Dead Family Reunion" was scheduled at the East Troy venue Aug. 3-4.

No action was taken at Thursday's closed-door meeting, but Clear Channel can appeal decision or file a lawsuit against Walworth County.

Clear Channel representatives would not comment after the meeting.
