DNR Advises Hunters Not To Transport Firewood

Officials Try To Stop Spread Of Emerald Ash Borer

As thousands of deer hunters prepare to head north, state officials are again asking them not to transport firewood.

The state hopes to protect Wisconsin's 700 million Ash trees from the emerald ash borer. The destructive insect lays its eggs in wood.

Officials said transporting firewood from county to county could spread the bug.
