Lawmaker Blasts State's Deal With Ex-UW-Whitewater Dean
Jones Accused Of Financial Mismanagement

MADISON, Wis. -- A state lawmaker said that he's outraged by the state's decision to drop its lawsuit against a former University of Wisconsin-Whitewater dean fired for financial mismanagement.State lawyers were seeking at least $10,000 from former graduate studies dean Lee Jones. They claimed that he misspent that much on purchases for himself.Under the settlement, the state dropped the case and Jones dismissed a lawsuit that claimed he was fired because he is black.State Rep. Steve Nass, R-Whitewater, blasted the UW System for giving up its attempts to get reimbursement for misspent tax dollars.He said that he's also angry about a clause in the settlement in which both sides agreed to try to keep it quiet by not notifying the press.
