MADISON, Wis. -- Madison police said that women should be on alert after several reports of a suspicious man harassing women on the far West Side.
VIDEO: Watch The ReportPolice said that women have been stopped in the same general area by a man with a similar description in all cases. The first reported incident occurred at Bradbury Court on Oct. 8, police said.Police said that in most cases the man was driving either a white pickup truck or a black sport utility vehicle and asks for directions to Star Cinema."Most of these women, if not all, have told us they're uneasy about it. It makes them feel uncomfortable, and they say that this guy leers at them. He follows them; he comes back a second time still asking directions to the Star Cinema," said Joel DeSpain, public information specialist for the Madison Police Department.Police said that Tuesday morning a man yelled and tried to grab a woman while she was taking her trash out at her home on Chester Drive. The woman was able to jump in her car and lock the doors, WISC-TV reported. Police said they aren't sure if it is the same man as the other cases."If it is the same guy who approached this woman on Tuesday while she was taking out her garbage, it would appear he's escalating a little bit in that he's now touched somebody. And that's concerning to us if this is the same person and they're escalating in their behavior," DeSpain said.In one case, a man approached a 12-year-old walking home from school on Cimmaron Trail. One of the women who reported being approached said she was walking in broad daylight with her two young children. She said the situation scared her enough that she has quit running and will only walk outside with another adult, WISC-TV reported.Police are asking women to use caution and call police if they see someone acting suspicious.Stay tuned to WISC-TV and Channel 3000 for continuing coverage.
