STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- A 14-year-old boy is charged with first-degree reckless homicide, accused of supplying the prescription drugs that a friend took at a party before being found dead at a relative's home the next day. Both boys attended Ben Franklin Junior High School in Stevens Point.Police said the victim, Tyler Trelka, 14, took as many as nine morphine and Vicodin pills from a cup of prescription medication the other boy gave to the group of teens at the get-together on Friday. The defendant allegedly stole the pills from his parents.Trelka told friends on Friday night that he didn't feel well after taking the pills, and he was found dead of an overdose Saturday in the relative's upstairs bedroom. The defendant's lawyer said she likely will seek to have him prosecuted as a juvenile, but state law required he be charged initially in adult court because of the seriousness of the crime.Cash bond was set on Monday at $50,000.His next appearance in Portage County Circuit Court is scheduled Oct. 30.
