Fitchburg Police Investigate Apparent Homicide
Another Person Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries

FITCHBURG, Wis. -- Authorities said they have opened a homicide investigation after responding to a Fitchburg apartment and finding a woman dead on Wednesday morning.
VIDEO: Watch The ReportThe incident happened shortly before 9 a.m. in the 3300 block of Leopold Way in Fitchburg, WISC-TV reported.Police said that they responded to a domestic disturbance Wednesday morning and, upon arriving at the scene, they found Yuliana Hernandez Hernandez, 23, dead in her apartment.Authorities said they also found a severely injured man, who wasn't identified, in the apartment. Police said that whatever happened in the apartment was over by the time they arrived."Responding officers found two persons inside the apartment, one was pronounced dead as the coroner just said. The other was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries," said Fitchburg Police Chief Tom Blatter.However, neighbors said they didn't know what was happening and feared for their safety."We're kind of hanging around out here to get the 411 so we can know if we need to go pick up our kids or not and if we are safe -- if there is somebody at large, or in custody, or whatever the case may be," said Cyntrelle Kapinus, a Leopold Way resident.Police said the hospitalized man was in surgery Wednesday afternoon and is being treated as a person of interest.Authorities said the public wasn't in danger.A cause of death for Hernandez hasn't yet been released, WISC-TV reported.
