National Stem Cell Bank Obtains More Cell Lines
New Lines Come From California Company

MADISON, Wis. -- A California company has agreed to deposit its federally approved stem cell lines in the national stem cell bank in Madison.WiCell Research Institute said that Novocell of San Diego deposited the lines this month.The deposit means the bank has 14 of 21 lines available for federal funding. It's trying to obtain all 21 lines.The bank was established by the National Institutes of Health in 2005. It distributes the cells to researchers around the world.Researchers are also studying the cell lines themselves to see how they behave under different conditions in the laboratory and to gauge their potential to grow into specific tissues.
