Gotham is located abiyt an hour and a half west of Madison, south of Richland Center, where the Pine River meets the Wisconsin River. Officials said that water levels around Gotham are now receding and the water is rerouting itself, WISC-TV reported.

"I've lived here 32 years and when I heard they were evacuating where I live, I just couldn't believe it," said Cindy Bird. "That's impossible. It can't get up this high. And then I got in my car and went around and the water was coming over the road. That water was coming in fast. I live by the boat landing and the Pine River was coming through there at 50 mph."

By late Monday evening, water was still running through Gotham and surrounding areas, WISC-TV reported.

Officials said that assessment teams will be dispatched to Gotham and nearby areas on Tuesday.

Damage estimates are expected to be minimal but emergency management officials are recommending that residents boil water for five minutes before drinking it.
